During the holiday season, we like to give our teacher appreciation gifts to show our wonderful teachers how much we love them! And of course, being a calligrapher, this usually entails some calligraphy related gifts :). Keep scrolling to see what I’ve created for our teachers this year.
The Creation Process
Ever since grabbing my iPad last year, my process has changed a bit. When I first started calligraphy, I spent lots of time trying to get my layout just right before putting pen to paper (or, let’s be honest, sometimes just jumping straight in with pen and ink and then having to do it over about 7 times…). Enter iPad and voila! Layout problem solved! All I have to do is set up my canvas in procreate to the size that my final piece needs to be.
Next, I insert my favorite guidelines (I use Lan’s guideline generator) on a new layer- and start writing! (Usually I write on my guideline layer at least once and have to undo that. Word to the wise, lock the guideline layer so you can’t accidentally write on it). I write out my piece, use my snapping tool to center it and then print the file to use for my final piece!

Next, I grab my handy-dandy lightpad, artist’s glove, ink, pointed pen holder and nib,! I like to use different washi tapes to secure my printer paper in place while I write the final product! Watch the process below (Sped up for time’s sake)!
The Final Product: Our Teacher Appreciation Gifts
Now for the final product! These are a 5×7 size and will easily frame! I often like to gift the print alone as people have very different taste in frames. These can even be displayed without a frame! I love this version of the often quoted Proverbs 31. We really emphasize the importance of kindness with our kids and are so blessed to have sweet teachers to who do the same!
